About Us

The PHC supports humanities programs that affect the everyday lives of people in the state like this exhibit on Philadelphia Latinos organized by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Humanities Council is committed to the Commonwealth's citizens and communities. We want you and your neighbors to be excited about lifelong learning, and we can bring a variety of programs to your neighborhood:
- We offer expert speakers on a variety of topics.
- We organize book discussion groups.
- We make grants for public humanities programs.
- We present special projects like Humanities Live and the Speaker's Millennium Lecture in partnership with the media to reach thousands of television viewers throughout Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Humanities Council inspires individuals to enjoy and share a life of learning enriched by human experience across time and around the world. The PHC integrates the humanities into everyday life through partnerships with cultural institutions and community organizations.
Our Vision
In the PHC's vision for 2003-2006, the humanities will advance in Pennsylvania in three tangible ways:
- Individuals involved in PHC-supported programs will affirm the value
of the humanities to their lives -- as ways to know, nurture, and use their
talents and opportunities for themselves and for others.
- Institutions will become more valuable to their communities --
creating meaningful learning experiences for individuals, connecting cultural
resources to citizens, and sparking civic participation and leadership.
- Local communities involved in PHC-supported programs throughout the Commonwealth will improve in the quality of civic life.
