Projects: Humanities Live: Caribbean Social Dances

Broadcast: August 22 & 29, 12 p.m.

Dancer Tania Isaac and Host Tracey Matisak on the set of Humanities Live.
Philadelphia gets a taste of the Caribbean as choreographer Tania Isaac discusses various styles of island music and dance. Isaac and her company demonstrate examples of reggae, quadrille, soca and masquerade dance, bringing the live audience into the party as well.

Originally from the West Indies, Tania Isaac is currently based in Philadelphia where she explores the aesthetic, kinesiologic, cultural and political bases of contemporary dance. The New York Times describes her as "holding the stage with complete command" and the Philadelphia Inquirer says that she creates "deeply satisfying dance theater." A former member of Rennie Harris Puremovement and Urban Bush Women, Isaac was named one of "25 to watch in 2006" by Dance Magazine.
